Hard-shelled, diverse insects.
Beetles are insects that have six legs, a head, an abdomen, and a thorax. There are currently 89 different types of beetles in Michigan. But, do not be alarmed, most of them are predators of smaller insects. They usually differ from other winged insects by their first pair of wings hardened and thickened (as well as their bodies). They serve as a protective shield for their actually flying wings which are tucked underneath. The most common beetle you would find in your home are carpet beetles. These insects are known to feed on dried foods such as flour, cereal, and cornmeal. They are attracted to wool clothes, cracks, lint, and clothes closets/ drawers.

protects your property from damage and ensuring a beetle-free environment.
A great way to identify beetles is by looking at its structure. If an insect has six legs, with a hard body shell and can fly, it is most likely to be a beetle. These beetles can range from many different colors such as: black, brown, reddish-brown, blue, red, orange, or multi-colored. They can be found living in numerous habitats. They mostly like to live in dark, moist environments under logs, rocks, and leaves. They also like gardens, ponds, and lakes in the warmer months of summer.
The damage that beetles can cause is dependent upon the type of beetle you are dealing with. While many beetles like to prey on smaller insects, dried foods, and vegetation, there is one that you will need to keep an eye out for structural damage: The Powderpost beetle. This beetle will attack walls, furniture, or other items by boring holes into wood. If you are dealing with a beetle infestation in the home, typically these types are referred to as carpet beetles. Normally beetles do not cause structural damage, but can get into your food, causing contamination or even disease.
If you have an infestation in or around your property, we will first ask a number of questions to know what type of beetle we are dealing with. There are many types of beetles, so one technique may not be the key solution for all. Second, we will make sure the house is clean of all insects (by vacuuming or sweeping). We will inspect food, fabrics, and lights for hiding beetles. We will ask that all food is in sealed containers and is temporarily removed from the home. We will then apply a mild insecticide to carpets, rugs, and furniture to remove any existing insects.
