pantry pests - Pest Control In Holland, MI

Pantry Pests in West Michigan (which are also known as “Stored Product Pests”) have an appetite for either processed or dried foods that you typically store in your cabinets. They do not cause any physical harm to your home, but the food that you have inside your home is most likely to be contaminated by these beetle-like creatures. The insects you would typically see in your home include: Indian meal moths, saw-toothed grain beetles, cigarette beetles, and weevils.

IDENTIFICATION

How to identify pantry pests

You can typically spot a pantry pest by infested food left out or by having crawling/ flying insects around the house. They range in various forms and colors: Indian meal moths: are reddish-brown with light gray towards the head Saw-toothed grain beetles: brown Cigarette beetles: light brown Weevils: Black These pests typically contaminate more food than they actually eat, as they maneuver in and out of your foods leaving behind droppings, which can cause disease if consumed. They can chew their way through cardboard or packaging, so it is recommended to check your perishable items before digging into them.

SOLUTIONS WE PROVIDE

How Empire Pest Control tackles a pantry pest infestation

We would start with preventative measures from the outside of the home, to attack the pest problem at the source. This would help to decrease the amount of pests to come into the home, but will not solve it all together. If there are pantry pests currently residing inside, we would ask you to get rid of any food contaminated, and put the rest in airtight containers (to prevent pantry pests from contaminating it). After all food is removed, we will then spray a fine mist in the home.
